Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Scale Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of a construction worksite by accurately weighing materials entering and leaving the facility. This position is responsible for maintaining precise records, ensuring compliance with legal and safety regulations, and supporting the overall efficiency of the site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Weighing Materials : Accurately weigh trucks and other vehicles entering and exiting the construction site to calculate the load carried, ensuring compliance with legal weight limits.

  • Record Keeping : Document weight data and transaction details in the computer system for billing and tracking purposes. Take pictures of loads and upload to a company issued laptop or iPad.

  • Vehicle Inspection : Inspect vehicles for safety and compliance with regulations before allowing them onto the scale. The employee will need to step out of the office and walk up a staircase/scaffold section to access a view of the trucks payload and take pictures of it.

  • Coordination : Provide instructions to truck drivers on positioning vehicles on the scale for accurate weight measurement.

  • Maintenance : Perform routine maintenance and calibration checks on the scale to ensure accuracy and reliability of measurements.

  • Issuing Tickets : Issue weight tickets to drivers as proof of compliance with weight regulations.

  • Dispute Resolution : Resolve discrepancies or disputes related to weight measurements by reviewing transaction records and conducting re-weighs if necessary.

  • Traffic Management : Manage the queue of waiting vehicles to ensure efficient flow of traffic in and out of the scale area.

  • Communication : Keeps supervisor informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to successfully perform assignments or adversely affect company operations. Properly follows company and OSHA safety procedures. Bring problems to the attention of the project Foreman, Superintendent, General Superintendent or Safety Director.

  • General Labor: Including but not limited to fire watch, dust control for demo activities, general site housekeeping, and labor needs

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Education : High school diploma or equivalent. Relevant coursework in mathematics, computer applications, and basic accounting is preferred.

  • Experience : Previous experience in a similar role within the construction, waste management, or recycling industries is advantageous.

  • Skills :

    • MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts

    • Proficiency in using computer systems for data entry and record keeping.

    • Good communication skills for coordinating with drivers and site personnel.

    • Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on scale equipment.

    • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements.

    • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions. Must have good interpersonal skills.

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by any employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to stand and/or sit in a stationary position for extended periods of time; 50%+. The employee is regularly required to use a computer/laptop/iPad on a jobsite with natural and/or florescent lighting and lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted. The employee occasionally may encounter high noise levels, but hearing protection is provided/required. The employee will need to step out of the office and walk up a staircase/scaffold.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employees encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. Employee is exposed to environmental conditions, working near machines and loud noises associated with construction sites. Exposed to variable weather conditions including rain, snow, wind, cold and heat.
