Position Summary

Assists the Production Supervisor in directing the activities of the department

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to production operations by complying with and enforcing policies and procedures for meat processing; Good Manufacturing Practices, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) regulations, etc.
  • Contribute to a safe and sanitary work environment by complying with and enforcing establishment procedures and rules.
  • Monitor and delegate the assembly and startup of meat processing equipment for operation. Monitor and delegate the disassembly of meat processing equipment for sanitation washing.
  • Monitor and delegate the high-volume packaging of frozen sausage patties, assuring that all department employees are trained and equipped to perform their jobs safely and effectively, meeting strict product quality specifications.
  • Monitor return-of-materials flow and the amount of rework generated at each work area to assure rework procedures are followed precisely and improve product throughput efficiency.
  • Assure product quality specifications are met by checking production logs and control charts and analyzing records and statistics.
  • Communicating frequently with equipment operators and laborers in the work area to assure procedures are followed properly, and product quality specifications are met.
  • Communicating frequently with other department heads to assure the proper flow of materials throughout the process.
  • Provide relief for laborers during breaks and lunches.
  • Implement contingency procedures of substitution to assure all vital department functions are performed, as necessary.
  • Contribute to production operations by solving process problems, making equipment adjustments, reviewing production and quality data, recording decisions, and referring problems to the Production Supervisor or Plant Manager.
  • Attend to the current needs of the process by responding immediately to the expressed orders of the Production Supervisor and/or Plant Manager.
  • Responsible for the quality of work performed and for identifying and documenting quality problems for corrective action and prevention of non-conforming products.
  • Level One
    • Must meet level 3 requirements for general utility and machine operator must be met prior to consideration for the Foreman position
    • Enforcement of SOP's, policies, GMPS's, procedures for single operation
    • Basic understanding of people safety and food safety
    • Responsible for labor management and efficiencies
      • Basic understanding of yield, inedible and rework
    • HACCP certified
    • LOTO certified
  • Level two
    • Responsible for documentation and reporting
    • Certification for pallet jack
  • Level three
    • Shift report
    • Advance enforcement of SOP's, policies, and procedures for meat processing of all operation including basic mechanical trouble shooting
    • Lead training and development of new employees
    • Check material inventories for management of the day and review supplies
    • Expectation is to be the back-up to the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school, six months to one-year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Prefer candidates should be able to read and write in English, possess good written and verbal communication skills, and have good mathematical skills. The candidate must be dependable, detail-oriented, able to follow directions and record data neatly and accurately, and able to work under minimal supervision. The candidate must be willing to work weekends and overtime hours

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is performed in a manufacturing and office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. Must be able to lift 50lb and must have knowledge of computers and be proficient in word and Excel.
