Position Overview:

We currently seek a Senior Project Engineer - Solar PV with Solar PV experience to partner with our East Region Solar PV Team in the design, management, and implementation of Solar PV Power projects for industrial, commercial, utility, and institutional customers. This is a Senior-level position with the ability to work closely with development, engineering, and construction team members effectively. This is a hybrid position based out of our Boston, MA, Framingham, MA or Columbia, MD office.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Project Developers and Development Engineers to gain an understanding of design intent and customer and Utility requirements.

  • Develop Interconnection Facilities designs to meet Utility requirements in a clear and effective manner while also simplifying the construction and operation.

  • Conduct site surveys to investigate electrical systems, utility configurations and site layout to ensure all designs are constructable and efficient.

  • Prepare engineering design and bid document development in support of construction, operations, and maintenance of customer site programs and projects in accordance with energy savings performance contract requirements.

  • Develop specifications and review quotes and submittals for interconnection equipment, transformers, Solar BOS equipment, grounding equipment, MV relay protection, metering, and switchgear.

  • Review internally produced and third-party designs from 10% through IFC to provide Value Engineering, confirm Utility standards and requirements are met, and that designs are meeting Ameresco standards to produce safe and reliable Solar PV projects.

  • Support Construction Project Managers with RFI review, site visits, submittals reviews to prevent unnecessary delays and ensure construction follows design drawings.

  • Support Commissioning team throughout start-up, commissioning and witness testing, including directly interfacing with Utility Witness Test personnel to prevent delays in obtaining Utility approvals.

  • Provide validation of Electrical Studies by recommending tests and procedures during commissioning and ongoing operations and maintenance periods to ensure system is operating within the parameters established during design.

  • Foster effective and positive business relationships with all parties. Perform other duties as required.

  • Support and facilitate discussions related to Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), microgrid controls, cybersecurity, and communications for complex projects.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS Electrical Engineering preferred but other engineering disciplines acceptable.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in either Power Engineering or Renewable Energy.

  • Solar PV project engineering and construction work experience focusing on on-site assessment, design, engineering, construction, and commissioning.

  • Working knowledge of Solar PV, Electrical Engineering, Construction, Safety, Industry standards, and the National Electrical Code.

  • Excellent verbal, written, computer, and technical communication and presentation skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer License (Electrical) is not required but is strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with Solar PV system simulation using PVsyst and other PV software is a plus.

  • Familiarity and ability to learn industry accepted power studies software such as Aspen, ETAP, Easy Power, PSCAD, etc.

  • Familiarity and ability to learn relay setting programs such as SEL AcSELerator.

  • Strong interpersonal and team communication skills.

  • Valid Drivers License issued by state of residence and in good standing.

  • Occasional travel required to project sites, mostly located in the region.
