Talascend is currently seeking a System Design Engineer - Fluid Systems for a long-term contract career opportunity in Bellevue, WA

Overview
This role supports advanced nuclear reactor projects through fluid system design and engineering oversight. The engineer will lead system development, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and manage supplier coordination from concept through commissioning.
Responsibilities
Design fluid systems from requirements development through final commissioning
Conduct technical trade studies to refine system design
Oversee suppliers in the development and fabrication of gas processing, filtration, and monitoring equipment
Evaluate component designs in the context of overall system integration
Prepare technical specifications and operations narratives
Review and resolve system and plant-level integration issues
Support design reviews and develop technical documentation including System Design Descriptions and Interface Control Documents
Generate comprehensive design packages including calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications
Manage drawing packages including P&IDs, 3D models, and system interface drawings
Collaborate with mechanical, I&C, civil, and nuclear disciplines on performance criteria
Propose, support, and evaluate system development and qualification testing
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering (or related field)
5+ years of experience with mechanical and piping systems
Proficient in reading and creating P&IDs
Experience with safety-related equipment and supplier coordination
Knowledge of ASME, BPVC, API codes and piping design/analysis
Familiarity with safety classifications and quality standards such as ASME NQA-1, AS 9100, or ISO 9001
Strong communication skills and ability to manage projects with competing constraints
Self-starter with high attention to detail and technical excellence
