Minimum Qualifications 1. Generic Option: Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus five years of sub-professional engineering experience.

2. DOTD Maintenance Option: Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus five years of experience in the construction or maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways or associated structures; or in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic and electrical systems.

SUBSTITUTIONS (applies to both options):
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

College training will substitute for a maximum of four years of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience, provided that six semester hours of each thirty are in one of these specialized fields: architecture, cartography, chemistry, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, geography, geology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math or physics. All specialized coursework must be in the same specialized field. A combination of coursework from different fields will not be accepted.

Full time training in sub-professional engineering from a trade school or technical institute will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis for a maximum of one year of experience.

Completion of a two year course of study in a sub-professional engineering curriculum from a trade school or technical institute will substitute for two years of the required experience.

A baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology will substitute for all of the required experience.

Possession of an engineer intern certificate will substitute for all of the required experience.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

60% SUPERVISION: Supervises a team of DOTD employees engaged in the inspection, sampling, testing, and surveying of constructions projects. Prepares and conducts employee performance appraisals. Provides supervision and inspection of contractors in accordance with Department Plans and Specifications. Instructs DOTD employees in the proper method of inspection, sampling and testing, documentation for construction projects. Supervises and computes or checks quantities for payment of both partial and final estimates. Checks entries in field books and ensures that DOTD employees are following safety procedures.

25% DATA MATERIAL: Supervises and/or prepares estimate worksheets, sample identification, daily diaries, and material memorandums. Disseminates information to contractors and subordinates engaged in construction projects. Assembles the required Certificates of Delivery, Certificates of Compliance and Certificates of Analysis for materials delivered to the project. Compiles all required correspondence for the field books and information required for final acceptance on construction projects. Gathers information necessary for Plan Changes.

10% PROJECT COORDINATION: Reviews construction plans by checking dimensions, alignments, summaries of quantities, cross-sections and special details. Conducts project site Labor and EEO interviews and completes required reports.

5% May be required to perform other duties as assigned by supervisor whenever necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.

This position is located in our Thibodaux Construction Unit.

SALARY: $24.04 Hourly
