Estimator IV - Senior Architectural Structural Estimator

Position Summary:

The Senior Architectural and Structural Estimator (SASE) is responsible for all bid pricing except for General Conditions (Division 1), site work (Division 2) and process/equipment (Divisions 11 and 13). The SASE creates complete estimates for R.H. White Construction's self-performed work, mainly concrete construction, and general carpentry. The SASE also solicits and reviews all subcontractor and vendor quotes for the specifications of work that fall under their jurisdiction.

Essential Functions/Position Responsibilities:

  • Works independently and as an active team leader to plan and create detailed, clearly defined, and accurate project estimates.
  • Assign bid responsibilities to team members.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings to obtain project requirements and objectives.
  • Collaborate with Subcontractor and Vendor Coordinator to contact suppliers and vendors for material and subcontract pricing.
  • Identify and clarify project details with client, engineering, or architectural staff.
  • Perform neat, orderly, and accurate quantity takeoffs with no supervision or direction as required to build estimate items.
  • Identify labor and equipment production for estimate items.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and material pricing and perform scope comparisons.
  • Research and utilize cost history in the development of labor and equipment production.
  • Develop project schedule.
  • Monitor progress of bid team to ensure that developmental milestones of the estimate are met.
  • Review project plans and specifications to ensure all items are accounted for and plan is in place for execution of the project.
  • Perform bid reviews with Project Team.
  • Effectively communicate the scope of work, risks, and potential value engineering items for each major project at a bid review meeting with the Estimating Manager and/or officers.
  • Present final estimate at Executive Officer review.
  • Lead the bid team with the estimate closeout process.
  • Produce proposals and assemble bid packages required by the procuring entity.
  • Manage the bid team during the job turnover and buyout process with Operations.
  • Regularly visit jobsites to develop and maintain project familiarity and knowledge.
  • Provide technical information, change order pricing, and other forms of support as needed to Operations throughout the project.
  • Participate in project close out with Operations to review estimated costs versus actual costs.
  • Remain current on trends, methodologies and best practices within the construction and cost estimating field.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Could supervise and provide oversight for 2-4 estimators

Hiring Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field or the equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Minimum 7-10 years' experience within the field of construction and cost estimating, including a minimum of 1 year within a leadership capacity.
  • Experience estimating across various construction disciplines including concrete and general carpentry construction.
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating fundamentals and conceptual estimating techniques
  • Additional consideration will be given to those applicants that can demonstrate knowledge in conceptual estimating for design-build projects, the Massachusetts G.L. Chapter 149 Filed Sub-bidding rules, Federal and State prevailing wage rates, and any other trade expertise that increases their effectiveness in their estimating role.
  • Ability to communicate with clients, engineers, subcontractors, executives, and individuals at all levels of the organization to effectively create and review project estimates.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and stay organized while managing competing priorities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to establish goals and objectives to achieve project deadlines and monitor progress.
  • Ability to work independently while exercising good judgement and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze information and data skillfully and reach sound conclusions.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and understanding of the business implication of decisions.
  • Strong team player with a positive attitude
  • History of successfully working internally with an operational team and externally with engineers/architects, owners, and subcontractors.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Sage/Timberline, PlanSwift, ISqFt or similar programs.
  • Must possess a valid unrestricted Driver's License.
