The employee within this position will function as an Engineering Technician I for Division 1 Roadside Environmental Unit in Hertford, North Carolina. This is an entry level technician position involving technical work and supporting higher level technicians or engineers in construction inspection, materials sampling, testing, and construction traffic control. The employee will primarily be responsible for assisting the Transportation Supervisor and Engineer in planning and scheduling vegetation management in 14 counties. The employee will assist lower-level supervisors and their crews in carrying out vegetation management activities.- Experience in vegetation management such as grass mowing, guardrail trimming, tree removal, and plant bed maintenance
- Experience in interacting with contractors and the public
- Experience reading highway and/or landscape construction plans
- Experience using MS Word and Excel
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
Additional Expectations:
Exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or more than 50 pounds of force frequently and/or more than10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee will be expected to work hours other than regularly scheduled due to emergencies and heavy workloads. The position is labor intensive and will be required to work in diverse working environments; in all weather conditions, heavy traffic, and in traffic moving at high speeds. The position will be required to follow oral and written instructions. Steel toe safety shoes will be required. Must be able to legally operate a State vehicle.
