Safety Coordinator - Construction
Location: Niagara Falls, NY
Pay Rate: $54/hr
Develop and Implement Safety Policies:
- Create, communicate, and enforce site-specific safety protocols tailored to demolition, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate with multiple contractors to ensure adherence to site safety requirements, review contractor safety plans, and conduct joint safety meetings
- Site Inspections and Audits: Perform regular inspections, risk assessments, and audits across demolition and construction activities to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
- Lead investigations into safety incidents, near-misses, or breaches; document findings; and ensure implementation of remedial measures
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with OSHA, local, state, and federal safety regulations, as well as company policies
- Deliver site safety orientations and ongoing training for all workers and contractors, focusing on hazard recognition, safe work practices, and emergency response procedures
- Following established formats, maintain accurate safety records, including inspections, incident reports, and safety meeting minutes
- Prepare regular reports for management and regulatory bodies as required.
- Develop and implement emergency action plans; coordinate drills and ensure all personnel are familiar with emergency procedures.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and availability of personal protective equipment for all workers and visitors.
- Monitor safety trends, analyze data, and recommend strategies to enhance the safety culture on site
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in construction safety management, including large-scale demolition projects and contractor oversight
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., CHST, CSP, OSHA 30-hour Construction, or equivalent) are strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of construction and demolition safety standards, risk assessment methodologies, and safety best practices
- Proven ability to lead safety meetings, conduct training sessions, and collaborate effectively with diverse contractor teams
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to respond to incidents and emergencies in a calm and decisive manner
- Proficiency with safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Asbestos experience is advantageous.
- Project-based, temporary position tied to the duration of the construction and commissioning phases
- Primarily field-based, with required presence on active demolition and construction sites
- Frequent interaction with contractors, subcontractors, site management, and regulatory officials
- May require work outside standard hours to address incidents, emergencies, or schedule demands
