Motor Equipment Operator I

The City of Virginia Beach is looking for a Motor Equipment Operator I. This position is with the Department of Public Works - Street Maintenance duties to include, but not limited to:

• Operate a dump truck in connection with the transportation of sand, stone, gravel, and asphalt.
• Operate a light truck in carrying tools, equipment, and supplies to and from repair jobs.
• Operate a motor truck engaged in snow removal, or sanding of icy streets and roads.
• Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment transported by truck.
• Operate pothole patcher truck in the repair of minor roadway defects.
• Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License - Class B (VA or NC)

Position is ALPHA I and requires working during inclement weather (e.g., snow, flooding & hurricanes, etc.).

CDL Hiring Bonus - Newly hired employees with a valid Class B CDL will be eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:

• $1,000 with first paycheck
• $1,000 first pay period following six-month interim eval (with "meets expectation" performance rating)
• $2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with "meets expectation" performance rating)
