Job Description Join a dynamic team specializing in Maritime Power & Energy Solutions, delivering innovative defense technology for US Navy Shipbuilding programs. This role involves comprehensive mechanical engineering, including structural and thermal analysis, for power distribution switchboards and related systems on Navy ships. Your expertise will be crucial in leading design efforts and resolving complex mechanical design challenges. Responsibilities
- Interpret specifications and requirements to determine structural, thermal, and safety-critical characteristics for mechanical designs.
- Prepare material and labor cost estimates for proposed designs and proposals.
- Design specified systems and components.
- Produce professional technical documentation including 2D drawings from 3D models, reports, analyses, white papers, procedures, and processes necessary to meet contractual requirements.
- Collaborate with all engineering supporting disciplines from concept through final product design, validation, qualification, and production.
- Ensure project budget and schedule adherence for assigned tasks.
- Oversee all aspects of mechanical design and analysis, including thermal analysis, structural analysis, electrical and electronics packaging, and mechanical concepts for new and updated products.
- Coordinate and review the work of the program design team, providing direction for design and analysis details and supporting the preparation of mechanical drawings.
- Support manufacturing build and qualification testing requirements, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and design improvements.
- Review and approve project documentation and change requests, ensuring proper documentation on projects.
- Manage design changes on assigned projects using the PLM system.
- Interface with customers, vendors, and production to develop product requirements and solutions.
- 4+ years of experience using 3-D CAD software tools such as SolidWorks and Inventor/AutoCAD, or equivalent modeling software.
- Experience with military and/or industry specifications and standards related to design, testing, hardware, materials, and processes.
- 2+ years of experience with Commercial/Navy/Military Specifications for environmental qualification testing.
- Experience with Power Distribution Switchboard or similar low/medium-voltage/high-power type equipment.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software ANSYS Workbench or equivalent, with modules for static, dynamic, and modal analysis.
- Skilled in designing shock and vibration mitigation for electrical enclosures.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and execute tasks with minimal guidance.
- Experience with additive manufacturing materials and techniques.
- Ability to lead design teams and execute tasks on-time and on-budget.
- Excellent technical writing skills demonstrated through authorship of technical documentation.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to obtain Secret Clearance.
