Superintendent
Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Superintendent to oversee the interior renovation of the Cafeteria at NIST. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of civil, architectural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines, along with the ability to communicate effectively with management, subcontractors, customers, and peers. The role requires travel to different job sites within a designated geographical area.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day field activities to ensure project milestones and overall schedule completion dates are met.
  • Create short-interval look-ahead project schedules to proactively track upcoming events.
  • Foster a culture valuing safety, health, and cleanliness.
  • Coordinate work to ensure construction is consistent with contract documents and industry best practices.
  • Establish and maintain dimensional controls using third-party survey and layout personnel when needed.
  • Verify all work is installed in a workmanlike manner.
  • Proactively identify issues and facilitate solutions by looking ahead no less than two weeks.
  • Obtain inspections and document quality aspects of physical work.
  • Ensure project compliance with contract terms and legal requirements.
  • Administer client-specific programs such as CQC, Safety, and Environmental Stewardship.
  • Conduct and attend pre-construction, progress, and other project and staff meetings.
  • Meet regularly with client representatives to discuss project status and resolve issues.
  • Manage self-performed activities within the established project budget.
  • Handle changes in project scope to prevent avoidable rework.
  • Administer contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders to ensure scope, terms, and conditions are met.
  • Manage punch list and project closeout process for timely completion.
  • Maintain daily paperwork including timecards, field reports, schedule updates, and email correspondence.
  • Provide timely and cordial interaction with supporting work groups such as accounting, HR, and ICS.
  • Direct and manage workloads of supporting staff, including training and mentoring.
  • Encourage staff to pursue lifelong learning opportunities and professional development.
Essential Skills
  • General construction experience.
  • Federal construction experience preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in general construction, federal projects, IDIQ, MATOC, SATOC, and design-build.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Ground-up and renovation experience.
  • Large project experience.
  • Experience working directly with clients.
Work Environment

The work is onsite at NIST, with daily operations starting around 6 a.m. The position is within a small 8(a) firm affiliated with a large Alaskan Native corporation, offering continued growth opportunities.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $130000.00/hr.
