HDR is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer. The successful candidate will be involved in project coordination, design management, financial and schedule monitoring, stakeholder engagement and negotiations, quality management, and will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to create high-quality design solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Intermediate Transportation Engineer, we'll count on you to\:
- Act as a transportation engineer as needed, including preparing road alignments, cross-sections, active transportation design, grading models, drainage designs, storm sewer network layouts, quantity estimates, cost estimates, project documentation, and specifications
- Coordinate designs with the rest of the multidisciplinary team including structural, traffic, pavement, environmental, stormwater management, electrical, etc.
- Assist the Project Manager in the day-to-day coordination of projects
- Support engagement externally and negotiation with key project stakeholders and clients
- Prepare work plans and schedules in coordination with project managers and other disciplines
- Assist in pursuit of opportunities and preparation of proposals (content generation, schedule, and fee estimates)
Preferred Qualifications
- A Minimum of 7 years’ experience in highway and/or municipal roadway design engineering
- Familiarity with road design practices including application of design standards, TAC Geometric Design Guide, various provincial and municipal standards, and preparing contracts (documents and drawings)
- Experience engaging and negotiating with external project stakeholders and clients
- Strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving, and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience with municipal and provincial clients in Ontario (MTO, Halton Region, City of Mississauga, City of Brampton, City of Toronto, and York Region)
- Experience with Freeway and Interchange Design
- Experience with Municipal Design
- Bachelor's degree
- Previous experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
- Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Hands-on experience with Highways and Roads CAD engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation and Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d
- MS Office knowledge
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
