General Overview:
The overall function of this position is to assist the Project Engineer in the activities of the Project Engineer's office, including supervision and performance of construction inspection duties. This position is located in District 62, Unit 210 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Engineering Technician 7. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.
The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Job Duties:
- Under the supervision of higher level technicians; performs and assists with the inspection of construction projects such as highways, bridges, ports, flood control structures, drainage structures, asphalt production facilities, and buildings to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Incumbent will be required to use independent judgment in planning work and making technical decisions not requiring engineering knowledge of a professional nature. Establishes and maintains a good relationship with the public.
- Prepares, reviews, recommends for approval, and assists in the preparation of necessary project related documentation, as required, such as daily work reports, sample reports, and 2059 documentation. Computes and checks construction quantities, computation sheets, cross sections, field books, haul diagrams, and other project related data to determine that quantities have been computed according to specifications, plans, and special provisions established by the agency. Ensures accuracy and timeliness of reports.
- Performs and assists in the performance of material sampling and testing as required for quality assurance of construction projects.
- Serves as traffic control technician and supervisor to enforce uniform traffic control practices statewide.
- Attends meetings and reviews plans for constructability and accuracy of quantities for upcoming construction projects.

Compensation:
- Engineering Technician 1
Starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $2.00 in premium pay for every hour worked, and an additional $2.00/hour for hours worked between 6 PM - 6 AM on assigned nighttime construction projects.
- Engineering Technician 2
Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $2.00 in premium pay for every hour worked, and an additional $2.00/hour for hours worked between 6 PM - 6 AM on assigned nighttime construction projects.
- Engineering Technician 3
Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $2.00 in premium pay for every hour worked, and an additional $2.00/hour for hours worked between 6 PM - 6 AM on assigned nighttime construction projects.
- Engineering Technician 4
Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $2.00 in premium pay for every hour worked, and an additional $2.00/hour for hours worked between 6 PM - 6 AM on assigned nighttime construction projects.
The incumbent is required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as to maintain the following licensing and operate the following equipment:
- Valid driver's license
- Operate a state owned vehicle, computer, surveying equipment, etc.
- Perform duties in extreme weather conditions such as rain, cold, or heat
- May be required to lift items up to 50 lbs
- Submit to random drug testing as required
