Inspector Jobs in Georgia
A Construction Inspector ensures that construction projects follow local and national building codes and ordinances, zoning regulations, and contract specifications. They visit project sites to inspect the work and monitor progress, checking for safety, quality, and adherence to plans and specifications. Inspectors may also test building materials and soil, measure dimensions, and check installation and placement. They are required to document their findings in a detailed report and may also be responsible for issuing violation notices and stop-work orders until building codes are met.
Essential skills for a Construction Inspector include strong observational skills, critical thinking, attention to detail, and knowledge of relevant codes and regulations. They should have solid written and verbal communication skills to accurately report their findings. A bachelor's degree in construction science, architecture, or engineering is usually required, and most inspectors also need to be licensed or certified. Some certifications are offered by the International Code Council (ICC), the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), or the American Construction Inspectors Association (ACIA). Prior to becoming a Construction Inspector, individuals might work as a construction worker, construction manager, or architect to gain relevant industry experience.
