They use intense heat to fuse metal pieces together, following detailed schematic drawings to assemble structural metal products, such as frameworks or shells for machinery or metal parts for buildings or bridges. A knowledgeable welder not only performs welding tasks but also handles materials planning, preparation, and setup for welding. They also ensure the use of correct welding procedures to meet specifications, inspect structures or materials to be welded, and maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
Key skills for a Welder include manual dexterity, technical skills, physical strength and stamina, attention to detail, and effective communication skills.
