SUPERVISING PLUMBER NIGHT

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Supervising Plumber Night within the Office of Facilities/Project Control.
This title is governed by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission; meaning that a candidate for the position will be placed as a provisional employee. At a later date the candidate will be required to take an examination administered by the Civil Service Commission. Candidates must score and rank high enough on this examination in order to remain in the position as a permanent employee.
DEFINITION: Under direction, supervises and works with a group of plumbers engaged in a variety of plumbing tasks; does related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Graduation from High School or Vocational School or possession of an approved High School Equivalent Certificate.
2. Five (5) years of experience in plumbing work involving a variety of plumbing tasks.
3. Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
NOTE: A valid Master Plumber's license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers may be substituted for (3) three years of related experience.
NOTE: Applicants may be required to possess a valid Master Plumbers license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers as determined by the Appointing Authority.
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Inspects, analyzes, and assists in the determination of the plumbing work to be done.
2. Develops effective work plans.
3. Gives suitable assignments and instructions to subordinates and supervises their work.
4. Estimates amounts of material and types of equipment needed for various types of plumbing work and lays out the work.
5. Supervises and performs the work involved in maintaining and repairing plumbing fixtures, piping, and equipment, and installing new plumbing, roughing, piping, and fixtures, and in cleaning sewer and waste lines of stoppage.
6. Prepares suitable reports and keeps needed records.
7. May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
8. Perform other duties and tasks assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of the problems, procedures, and methods used in inspecting, analyzing, and determining plumbing work to be done.
2. Knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods, practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions in the field of plumbing.
3. Knowledge of record keeping procedures.
4. Ability to keep necessary records.
5. Ability to give suitable assignments and instructions.
6. Ability to analyze and resolve plumbing problems.
7. Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work schedule.
8. Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
9. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION
1. Salary: $129,886
2. Employment Period: Twelve (12) Months
3. Union Affiliation: Building Trades Council
