    Salary
    • Support Salary Scale Grade S12: $29.52 per hour; starting

    Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act this position is non - exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System. Please see linked salary scale for the full range.

    Role

    Under general direction, performs maintenance supervisory work, and performs work requiring advanced knowledge of several trades, in an assigned geographic area with multiple schools or buildings. Work of the class involves responsibility for reviewing and assigning maintenance work requests to the appropriate trades workers for completion, supervising the day-to-day operation of several trade functions in an administrative area, coordinating requests for parts and materials, maintaining and completing records on work requests and assisting the supervisor in the administration and management of the area maintenance program. Work activities of employees in this class are differentiated from those of area maintenance services supervisor by the much greater degree of involvement in the day-to-day assignment of work and supervision of work activities and lesser degree of involvement in policy and program planning activities.

    Essential Functions

    Reporting directly to the Maintenance Area Supervisor, the Maintenance Area Foreman performs the following duties:

    Attendance

Investigates work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes. Implements corrective actions within authority to resolve work problems.

    • Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, to make recommendations. Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions.

    Job Class Specific
    • Serves as acting supervisor, temporarily taking on duties and responsibilities, in the absence of the Maintenance Area Supervisor.
    • Supervises the day-to-day operation of several trades functions.
    • Assigns maintenance work requests and scheduled preventive work, which have been approved for completion, to the appropriate trades workers.
    • Supervises the planning, work scheduling, work evaluation, parts/equipment procurement, and work order/records completion activities of the supervising trades workers.
    • Ensures the accurate and proper completion of all data required for work orders, and manages records regarding the status of work requests received.
    • Visits schools and job sites to identify/clarify plant, equipment and grounds work requests; to plan work and resolve problem areas and to inspect/evaluate work activities and completed work.
    • Assists the Maintenance Area Supervisor in completing school and job site visits, work planning and evaluation, budget estimates, costs and labor assignments to maintenance projects, prioritizing work requests, employee evaluations and other activities related to administration and management of the area maintenance program.
    • Coordinates inspections by funding and regulatory agencies.
    • Coordinates asset inventory updates in SchoolDude.
    • Maintains inventory control of vehicles, equipment, tools, personal protective equipment, and supplies.
    • Obtains parts and services independently, and under direction of the Area Supervisor.
    • Assists in the administration of employees procurement cards.

    Performs other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Area Supervisor.

    Required Qualifications

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
    • Comprehensive knowledge of methods, equipment, tools, and procedures of building and grounds repair, construction and renovation, and school equipment and facilities maintenance; working knowledge of the trades involved in maintenance activities. Ability to effectively plan maintenance service programs and applying appropriate policies, supervise field and shop maintenance activities; ability to complete maintenance reports, maintain effective record-keeping systems. The following are essential: ability to evaluate maintenance programs and activities and to plan and implement programs for the prompt, efficient and effective maintenance of school buildings and grounds; ability to work under pressure and manage emergency situations and excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills. Use computers and electronic-mail effectively and efficiently in accordance with BOE policies. Use the computerized maintenance management system to inventory assets, and manage and prioritize tasks.

    Education/Training/Experience
    • Graduation from high school supplemented by applicable college coursework or trade training and extensive experience in building and grounds maintenance, construction, and renovation and school facilities and equipment maintenance, including considerable experience as a supervisor. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

    Certification and Licensing Requirements
    • Valid drivers license and the ability to operate a vehicle in accordance with Board of Education policies.

    Physical Demands
    • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
    • Able to walk, sit or stand for prolonged periods. Able to perform frequent twisting, bending, climbing, kneeling, and reaching above shoulders.
    • Able to access elevated and subsurface workspaces via ladders, lifts, scaffolding, hatches, and manholes.
    • Able to work in environments subject to hot and cold temperatures and hazards such as electrical shock, airborne particulates, chemical exposure, and fall; and able to employ the personal protective equipment necessary to protect against it.

    Special Requirements
    • Overtime, and night, weekend, or holiday work may be required.
    • Respond in a timely manner to facility emergencies, including those occurring after normal business hours.
    • Reassignment between workgroups and worksites may occur. Work requires frequent travel between facilities.
    • Employees are provided uniforms and must wear proper attire.
    • Employees are required to use the provided personal protective equipment.
    • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
    • Regular and predictable attendance.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Associates Degree.
    • Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.
