Building Inspector I Hiring Range: $21.35 - $24.02 hourly Building Inspector I Full Pay Range: $21.35 - $32.02 hourly

Building Inspector II Hiring Rate: $27.38 - $30.80 hourly Building Inspector II Full Pay Range: $27.38 - $41.07 hourly

Work Schedule: 4-day work week, 7:30am - 5:30pm, or 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday

Position Overview:
Under general supervision of the Building Official, oversees the completion building inspections in residential and commercial field inspections for code and ordinance compliance and enforcement. Reviews plans for compliance with designated codes and ordinances administered by Development Services Department for purpose of issuing permits. Performs other duties as assigned. Responsible for regular, on-time attendance.Performs on-site building inspections for safety, code and ordinance compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, zoning, erosion and sign code requirements. Reviews residential and commercial plans for compliance with city ordinances, model codes, and state and federal requirements; compile written reports of plan review. Address questions from citizens, builders, sub-contractors, engineers, architects, developers, and others regarding permit requirements, code requirements, and inspection requests.May perform inspections for the condemnation of buildings. Maintains inspection and code enforcement records and files. Monitors and enforces building codes and ordinances related to life safety issues of the public. Directs staff in the application of building and related codes.Assists with plan review of commercial property plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Prepares building inspection reports. Meets with Inspectors for briefings and to assist as needed.

Stays abreast of City, State, and Federal codes, ordinances, and/or policies to ensure projects are in compliance. Responds to citizen and stakeholder inquiries and concerns. Gathers and analyzes data in order to respond to complaints from citizens, and makes recommendations for solutions based on research findings.Follows safe working practices and has a working knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Performs administrative/office duties as required, including attending meetings, entering computer data, preparing reports and correspondence. Performs related duties and special projects as required and assigned. Responsible for regular attendance and arriving to work on time. High School Diploma or GED and two years previous related experience in construction field required; four years of experience required at the Building Inspector II level. Valid driver's license required. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental Director or his/her designee within two working days of receipt.

Must possess a Plumbing Inspector License from the Texas State Plumbing Board. Must possess one (1) ICC certification from the following categories (more than one ICC certification is extremely desirable):
Residential Building Inspector
Commercial Building Inspector
Residential Electrical Inspector
Commercial Electrical Inspector
Residential Plumbing Inspector
Commercial Plumbing Inspector
Residential Mechanical Inspector
Commercial Mechanical Inspector

ICC Certification as Commercial Building Plans Examiner desired.
