SUMMARY: As a Painter at Big Kahunas and Shipwreck Island Waterparks, you will play a critical role in maintaining the visual appeal, safety, and integrity of all park structures, attractions, and guest areas. You will be responsible for preparing, painting, staining, and sealing surfaces throughout both indoor and outdoor areas of the parks. This position requires attention to detail, familiarity with painting in large-scale or themed environments, and a commitment to quality and safety standards.
The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and takes pride in craftsmanship. They are experienced with a wide variety of coatings, surface preparation techniques, and painting tools, and are comfortable working in seasonal, guest-facing environments with exposure to weather elements and high guest volumes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
Prepares surfaces for painting by sanding, scraping, power washing, and applying primers.
Paints, stains, and seals a variety of surfaces, including buildings, fences, slides, water attractions, signs, and decorative theming.
Maintains themed finishes and color consistency across attractions and park elements.
Mixes and matches paints, varnishes, and finishes to achieve desired effects and durability.
Follows maintenance and repaint schedules to ensure the parks remain visually vibrant and safe.
Works with the Maintenance and Operations teams to prioritize painting tasks during off-hours or low-traffic periods.
Safely sets up and operates ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and other access equipment.
Maintains accurate records of paint types, project timelines, and maintenance logs.
Inspects painted areas regularly and makes touch-ups as needed.
Follows all safety protocols, including PPE use, proper ventilation, chemical storage, and signage when working in guest areas.
Helps with seasonal preparation, painting attractions and buildings in anticipation of park openings and major events.
Assists with minor drywall repair, patching, and surface refinishing where needed.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
Proven experience as a painter in commercial, construction, or themed environments (theme parks, waterparks, resorts, etc. preferred).
Knowledge of paint types, surface prep techniques, and weather-resistant coatings.
Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality work on schedule.
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and pride in appearance and upkeep of facilities.
Must be comfortable working at heights and in various outdoor conditions including heat, humidity, and proximity to water.
Ability to work independently or with a team depending on project scope.
Good communication and organizational skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 2 years of commercial or facilities painting experience required; experience in waterparks or themed attractions preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires standing, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Exposure to outdoor elements including sun, water, and humidity.
Use of paints, thinners, solvents, and other chemical-based materials with appropriate safety gear.
Must be able to work varied shifts, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate park needs and minimize guest disruption.
