This is a part-time or full-time, non-tenure track faculty position in a professional experience program. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the academic unit head.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Prepares and delivers classes to undergraduate and/or graduate students.

  2. Performs a predetermined amount of teaching load credits (TLC) during the regular academic year; reduction of teaching load through reassignment of duties is possible under certain circumstances.

  3. Complies, administers, and grades examinations.

  4. Provides services to the university and the profession.

  5. May conduct supplemental instructional activities such as independent studies, internships and advising.

Non-Essential Job Functions

  1. May supervise the work of student and/or graduate assistants.

  2. May serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

  3. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Extensive knowledge and practical experience in the field in which the individual will be teaching.

  2. Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and/or graduate students.

  3. Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.

  4. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  5. Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.

Physical Demands Required Education

The individual will be a successful and effective professional in the discipline. A terminal or professional degree may be presented, but is not required, to support the requirements for consideration. Education requirements will be relative to position, professional experience and qualifications.

Required Experience and Training

Practical experience sufficient to teach at the university level, through teaching or profession, is required

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching at the university level is preferred.

Other Specifications

The School of Human Sciences at Stephen F. Austin State University invites applications for a 9-month non-tenure track faculty position to teach classes in the Construction Management program starting Fall 2025. Rank will be determined based on the experience and credentials of the selected applicant.

Physical Demands: Ability to work in lab environments performing and demonstrating construction means and methods.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in construction management or closely related field.

  2. Significant experience in the field may substitute for the Master's degree.

  3. Communicate effectively in spoken and written English.

  4. Five years of experience in the United States construction industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Professional credentials/licensure (PE, AIA, CPC, LEED AP, PMP, etc.).

  2. Prior teaching experience at the college or university level.

  3. Experience teaching at a university or secondary level in a clinical setting.

  4. Experience in one or more of the typical construction trades (i.e. carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, etc.).

  5. Ability to lead groups of students on actual construction projects while teaching the skills and concepts of construction.

  6. OSHA 500 or the ability to earn authorization.

Resume/Vita should support the candidate's ability to teach in two or more of the following Construction Management courses:Mechanical and Electrical Systems, Construction/Engineering Materials and Methods, Construction Estimating, Safety and Quality Control in Construction, Construction Contracts & Law, Statics and Mechanics of Materials, or Technology Applications in Construction. Knowledge of theory and ability to perform field work are especially desired.

Established in 2019, the Construction Management program at Stephen F. Austin State University has experienced significant growth and is expected to continue to grow. The construction management program has solid support from the university administration and from the industry with a robust advisory board to help develop the program. The selected applicant will have the opportunity to significantly impact and direct the development of the program.

Practical application of theory is the bulwark of the program and is often cited as the reason for the program's growth. Through strategic partnerships with local charitable organizations, faculty have the opportunity to guide students in their capstone experiences when students collaborate with clients to design, plan, organize, manage, construct, and manage the construction process of an actual construction project while making a positive difference in the community.

This position is eligible for participation in the Optional Retirement Program (ORP), subject to the position being full-time and at least 4 months in length, or the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
