Primary Purpose of this Position:
The North Carolina Aquariums at Pine Knoll Shores is seeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Building Superintendent . This position will be responsible for overseeing housekeeping, operation and maintenance of all mechanical systems, maintenance of life support systems, grounds maintenance, security, fire, septic system, and maintenance of the facility structure. The Facilities Manager works under the direction of the Director of Operations and Husbandry and works closely with all other staff to support their departments many and varied requirements.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Oversee inventory, shipping and receiving, and coordination of maintenance contracts.
- Provide and maintain a safe and pleasant environment for both staff and visitors.
- Responsible for ensuring that the Aquarium operates as efficiently as possible using the latest housekeeping techniques, energy saving strategies, and through the efficient use of supplies, materials, and staff.
- Supervises staff.
Position/Physical Requirements:
- Weekend, evening, and holiday work will be required.
- Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
- Ability to lift and carry 50lbs.

Qualified candidates must have or be able to:
- Demonstrated experience in Facility Maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of a wide variety of electrical and hand tools.
- Demonstrated experience in at least three of the following categories: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, engine repair, or hydraulics (water treatment).
- Demonstrated supervisory experience.
Management Preferences:
- Demonstrated experience with building automation controls.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
AND
four (4) years of progressive experience in facility maintenance or construction including experience in at least three (3) building or mechanical trades including one (1) year of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification
May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40
CFR part 82, subpart F.

The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is located 6 miles from Morehead City, NC, on Bogue Banks, sits adjacent to Bogue Sound. A living collection of over 4,500 animals in 90,000 square feet of exhibit space attracts and engages over 400,000 visitors each year. The Aquarium is located in the middle of Roosevelt Natural Area, a state park of maritime forest and wetland ecosystems.
