This position functions as a technical resource providing probabilistic and production-based cost estimating; schedule development, monitoring and analysis; and risk management on Major Projects, MDOTs largest (often $500M+), most complex, highest priority projects, often exceeding $1B, including alternative delivery/innovative contracting projects. The Cost Schedule Risk (CSR) Engineer is a key resource for complying with Major Project requirements mandated by Congress and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for delivering Major Projects. One of the key mandates is to ensure that State-developed cost estimates for Major Projects are reasonable and supportable. These projects have statewide significance, and the development and delivery methods are unique within the Department and require significant monitoring to ensure coordination with Region and Transportation Service Center (TSC) staff, the Bureau of Finance and Contract Services Division (CSD), and FHWA. This position will work closely with Region, TSC and Central Office staff during development and delivery phases. This position researches major project delivery methods and requirements, develops and maintains guidelines and standards, and functions as a statewide resource on major project cost, schedule and risk procedures. The person in this position serves as a technical resource in close coordination with the various Senior Project Managers within the Office of Major Projects (OMP) and functions as a national leader for major project CSR policy and procedure and serves as a resource for our peer agencies in other states. The person in this position operates independently with limited guidance.

Education
Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering.

Possession of a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering is preferred.

Experience
Five years of professional experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including three years equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11, two years equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 12 or Transportation Engineer Licensed 12, or one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineering Licensed Specialist 13 or Transportation Engineering Specialist 13.

  • Possess a registered professional engineering license as required by the State of Michigan.
