Job Description

The Mechanical Project Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of critical Ride/Show systems upgrades on existing attractions, including but not limited to specification, design, procurement, production, installation, and commissioning of ride and show mechanical/structural systems. The Project Engineer provides technical guidance and vendor management on one or more projects at a time, including but not limited to Earthquake Ride/Show Systems, and Transformers Ride/Show Systems, and Revenge of the Mummy Ride/Show Systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for technical completion of mechanical / structural modifications to complex ride and show systems to improve safety, reliability, operational readiness, diagnostics, and serviceability.
  • Provides technical guidance and vendor management of the design, fabrication, and daily installation, test and adjust, and validation activities in the field for mechanical/structural systems.
  • Supports the Project Manager with developing scope of work documents for engineering projects by investigating and providing the technical criteria and maintenance/operational requirements.
  • Interfaces with vendors, Engineers, Managers, Supervisors and Technicians to resolve problems and design issues to meet project objectives.
  • Performs and checks engineering calculations for design, analysis, testing, and implementation of mechanical and structural systems.
  • Reviews designs and documentation from vendors ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and specifications.
  • Leads design and production reviews ensuring product quality, specification conformance, and schedule accuracy.
  • Oversees and manages mock-ups, prototypes, installations, test and adjustments, and validation of show and ride systems to ensure compliance with contractual specifications.
  • Coordinates assigned engineering activities between vendors, ride supervisors, ride managers and technicians.
  • Updates project status to Project Manager on a regular basis.
  • Presents technical project overviews and detailed engineering issues to various levels of management.
  • Maintains configuration management of mechanical/structural documentation in accordance with Engineerings guidelines for proper archiving and security.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established USH policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university required in Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering, or related field.

Experience

  • 3+ years demonstrated project engineering experience of mechanical / structural systems (theme park industry experience preferred)
  • 3+ years vendor management experience
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Requirements

  • Strong analytical skills to perform engineering calculations for design, analysis, test, and implementation of mechanical, structural, hydraulic and pneumatic system modifications.
  • Strong Knowledge of Mechanical, Special Effects, Flame Systems, Electrical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic systems design and troubleshooting
  • Background in design of welded structures, beam elements, welded joints, structural steels, gearing, composite materials, manufacturing, and fabrication processes as applies to AWS and AISC.
  • Ability & willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays with short notice

  • Knowledgeable in OSHA, NEC, AWS, ASTM and F24 standards.

  • Excellent technical oral and written communication skills

  • Experience working in a union environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD
