This position develops, quantifies, costs, and provides a complete capital expenditure (CapEx) model for evaluating projects. Employees in this role provide technical guidance, estimating knowledge, market pricing, and staffing considerations during the estimating process:

* Prepares capital cost estimates
* Reviews designs and specifications for cost effectiveness and suggests alternatives, when appropriate
* Coordinates with other departments, ensuring understanding of project objectives and efficient utilization of resources
* Reviews layouts, designs, and specifications for cost effectiveness and suggests alternatives, when appropriate
* Remains current with technology and industry evolution, assuring that capital estimates anticipate the correct market conditions
* Establishes, builds, and implements metrics for sot and construction estimate checks
* Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Project Estimator I to join our project estimating team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in preparing and managing cost estimates for various projects, focusing on accuracy, feasibility, and alignment with organizational goals. The Project Estimator I will work closely with different departments to ensure project estimates are comprehensive and consider all project variables.
Day to day responsibilities include leading and preparing estimates, the development of pricing models, and evaluating new technological innovations in the industry. The candidate will have the ability to grow their skillset, as our team also works on a large portfolio of technologies including wind, utility scale solar, distributed solar, energy storage, transmission & distribution lines, substations, water treatment, 5G & fiber, hydrogen, pipelines, and fossil generation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare detailed project cost estimates, including conceptual, preliminary, and definitive estimates for new and existing projects.
  • Perform conceptual engineering design and develop preliminary construction plans to support estimating scope quantification.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to gather and analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare accurate estimates.
  • Perform value engineering analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and project requirements.
  • Develop and maintain estimation tools, databases, and methodologies to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of cost estimating processes.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans to account for potential project uncertainties.
  • Present cost estimates and value engineering options to senior management, project stakeholders, and clients.
  • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and ensure the best value for the company.
  • Track project costs and variances throughout the project lifecycle, updating estimates as necessary to reflect changes in scope, design, or market conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements in all estimating activities.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in project estimating, with a focus on conceptual engineering and project design.
  • Experience in utility-scale energy projects, including renewable energy, power generation, and transmission infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in value engineering principles and practices.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in project estimating and cost management.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's or Post-Graduate Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project estimating, with a focus on conceptual engineering and project design.
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in field engineering or construction management
  • Experience with cost estimation software and tools (e.g., PlanSwift, WinEst, CostX, or similar).
  • Familiarity with project management software such as MS Project or Primavera P6.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a standard office environment.
  • Occasional travel to project sites for meetings, inspections, and collaboration with on-site teams.
Work Environment:
  • This position is based in our corporate office with occasional visits to project sites.
  • The work environment is fast-paced and requires the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
