Position Overview \nThompson Engineering is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with specialized experience in bridge design to join our growing Structural Engineering Team. This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer with a strong background in the design of bridges for federal, state, and local government projects . \nThe primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the safety, strength, and integrity of structures we design. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in the application of AASHTO codes and state-specific transportation design procedures and will play a key role in the evaluation, design, and reporting of structural systems. \n\nKey Responsibilities \n\n\nPerform structural analysis, modeling, and design for a variety of public and private sector projects. \n \n\nFocus on state and local highway bridge design , with additional work including: \n\n\nCommercial building structures \n \n\nIndustrial structures (e.g., pipe racks, personnel platforms) \n \n\nHeavy civil foundations \n \n\nMarine and waterfront structures (e.g., piers, bulkheads, wharfs) \n \n\nRetaining walls and similar infrastructure \n \n \n \n\nUtilize OpenBridge (LEAP) software for bridge structural analysis. \n \n\nEnsure compliance with state bridge bureau guidelines and specifications . \n \n\nSelect materials appropriate for each project to ensure durability and code compliance. \n \n\nProduce technical reports , design documents, and support client communication. \n \n\nMaintain high-quality deliverables and ensure accuracy in engineering documentation. \n \n\nManage time efficiently across multiple projects with minimal supervision. \n \n\nCollaborate with project managers, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams. \n \n \n\nQualifications \n\n\nEducation: \n\n\nBachelor's degree in Civil\/Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university (Master's preferred) \n \n \n \n\nExperience: \n\n\nMinimum 10 years of bridge design experience \n \n \n \n\nLicensure: \n\n\nMust have a current Professional Engineer (PE) license \n \n \n \n\nTechnical Skills: \n\n\nProficient in: \n\n\nStructural FEA Analysis \n \n\nOpenBridge (LEAP) \n \n\nMicroStation \n \n\nMicrosoft Office (Word, Excel) \n \n \n \n \n \n\nCertifications: \n\n\nNot required \n \n \n \n\nPhysical Requirements: \n\n\nAbility to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed \n \n\nMust be able to sit and operate a computer for extended periods \n \n \n \n \n\nAbout Thompson Engineering \nFounded in 1953, Thompson Engineering has a longstanding reputation for delivering high-quality services in construction quality assurance , materials testing , inspection , and geotechnical analysis .
