JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: To maintain the District's transportation vehicles.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Perform minor mechanical repairs.
Assist the Master Mechanic when needed.
Inspect and service buses and school vehicles including the condition and safety of the following equipment:
Tires
Brakes
Steering mechanism
Battery, lights
Windshield wipers, defrosters
Windows
Fire extinguisher
Reflectors
Door locks
Instruments
Fan belts, filters, etc.
Change oil, filters, transmission fluid, tires, fix flats
Repair seats
Electronic systems and devices on district vehicles (GPS, camera, radio etc.)
Use tools and equipment safely and properly.
Correct unsafe conditions that may exist in the work area that could cause an accident. Any conditions that are not correctable by you are to be reported to the supervisor immediately.
Know and practice the proper safety procedures in operating machinery and equipment as required for the job.
Know and practice safety techniques in lifting, climbing, and performing other job duties.
Attendance at work is an essential function.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
- Experience in general mechanics preferred
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid Texas driver's license/commercial driver's license
- Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to interpret and carry out instructions given
- Ability to read and understand instructions for transportation and safety procedures
OTHER INFORMATION:
Equipment Used: Air impact wrenches, tire tools, seat repair kit, tire changer and air jack. Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over), pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending, climbing, operation of motor vehicle, specific visual requirements (depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors), specific hearing requirement. Outside and inside; excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness and/or chilling; excessive noise (intermittent), constant noise, dust; silica, asbestos, etc.; fumes, smoke, or gases; solvents (degreasing agents), grease and oils, electrical energy, works around machinery with moving parts, works around moving objects or vehicles, working on ladders or scaffolding, unusual fatigue factors (long hours under the bus), working with hands in water, protracted or irregular hours of work.
