THE OPPORTUNITY
The estimator will work closely with the Preconstruction Manger in preparing, evaluating and submitting concrete proposals for construction projects. This position will frequently be in communication with clients, vendors and other estimating team members and plays a key role in the procurement of work and growing the business.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Retrieve, review, and organize bidding documents (plans, specifications, addenda) for both residential and commercial projects.
- Thoroughly understand and interpret all aspects of project documents, including plans, specifications, engineering/architectural details, and scope of work.
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for concrete, rebar, formwork, void, and other related materials using estimating software such as ProEst.
- Develop and adjust unit pricing in accordance with scope requirements, project type, and geographic locationincorporating labor, materials, equipment, overhead, indirect costs, and profit.
- Analyze and incorporate subcontractor and vendor proposals into estimates, ensuring alignment with project scope and bid requirements.
- Draft and communicate detailed clarifications, inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and bid qualifications for each proposal.
- Collaborate with clients, engineers, architects, and internal stakeholders to gather necessary information and ensure accurate estimation.
- Review historical cost data on completed projects and apply lessons learned to current estimates to improve accuracy and competitiveness.
- Prepare thorough estimate packages including job notes, proposal documents, vendor quotes, schedules, specifications, bid assumptions, and correspondence for use by Project Management and Field Operations.
- Participate (as needed) in the project handoff process from preconstruction to operations.
- Maintain and update all tracking systems including bid logs and bid closeout documentation.
- Work as a team with other estimators to monitor daily workflow; provide training, mentorship, and quality control on all estimates.
- Coordinate estimate reviews and approvals and ensure adherence to deadlines and department goals.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION
A degree in Construction Management is preferred but not required; 3+ years related experience.
Additionally:
- Proficient understanding, reading and interpreting plans/project drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and digitizing software. Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite of software.
- Strong mathematical aptitude skills.
- Experience communicating with clients and vendors.
- Strong written and verbal communication/organizational skills.
- Ability to work well with deadlines.

- Primarily office-based with extended computer and desk work.
- Occasional job site visits are required to assess field conditions and verify project scope.
- Full-time schedule (typically 4050 hours/week); extended hours may be needed to meet bid deadlines.
- A fast-paced and deadline-driven environment requires high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Regular interaction with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and design professionals.
- Independent work with significant responsibility in project planning and financial impact.
- Site visits may expose the estimator to dust, noise, uneven terrain, and varying weather conditionsPPE required.
- While performing the duties of this job, may be required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally required to stand.
- Requires ability to talk or hear; walk; and use hands to finger operating digital devices.
- May require to be able to lift and/or move up to 30+ pounds.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
