Job Title: Welder / Fabricator

Reports to: Welding / Fabricating Supervisor

Job Summary:

Weld and fabricate repairs on metal structures, such as dumpsters, compactors, containers, hydraulic systems, and sanitation trucks; used in the collection and disposal of waste. Ability to use a variety of welding techniques, such as arc or mig welds on mild steel. Must have a solid understanding of welding properties, practices, and some mechanical training. Aptitude to weld and fabricate components in overhead, vertical, and flat positions. Subjected to welding in tight areas, such as containers and truck bodies. Operate hand and power tools; such as grinders, saws, and drills. Inspect materials to be welded to ensure the proper procedure is used, and maintain welding equipment and machinery. Completes required paperwork associated with the repair of equipment, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times. Performs all work within standard repair times, while working in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures. Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

-8 hour shifts.

-Walking and or standing 6-8 hours or more per day.

-Constant gripping, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.

-Lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Essential Functions:

-Follow safe operating practices, safety rules, and protocols.

-Read, understand, and follow job order specifications, drawings, and/or work orders.

-Operate forklifts, hand power tools, grinders, and other tools related to the jobs needs.

-Maintains welding equipment using preventative maintenance methods.

-Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.

-Works in conjunction with other departments, coordinating the timely repair of equipment.

-Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

-Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment.

-Possess good hand / eye coordination and manual dexterity.

-Hydraulics knowledge a plus.

-Attention to detail.

-Ability to understand and follow established safety procedures.

-Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, when needed

Physical, Mental, and Visual Demands:

-Strong mental and visual attention is required to performing work where there is some variation of the procedure.

-Ability to stand for long periods of time.

-Working around moving vehicles and equipment.

-Strong mathematical abilities.

Requirements:

-3 years welding experience.

-Pass Pre-Employment Drug Screening.

-Basic understanding of OSHA Lock Out Tag Out program and all OSHA Fire Protection regulations.

-Wearing of steel toed boots with slip resistant soles, jeans or work pants, shirts with sleeves, and all required welding gear.

Environmental Conditions:

-Exposure to noise, odors, fumes, oils, vibration, and hazardous materials.

-There is sufficient noise at times to cause the worker to shout in order to be

heard above the ambient noise level.

-Variable work environment temperatures (cold and heat).
