We are currently hiring a Construction Safety Manager to be located in the valley region of Los Angeles, CA. The Construction Safety Manager will provide their expertise to support a very large educational facility construction program. Our Education team is a prime consultant to several school districts in the country and provides services to K-12 as well as higher education institutions nationally.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform management oversight of construction activity on behalf of the client, report on contractor regulatory and contract safety compliance on multiple projects sites.

  • Monitor compliance to all current OSHA requirements that relate to the specific construction projects

  • Perform daily safety reviews of work in progress in accordance with current Safety Regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as developed and updated by our client.

  • Monitor adherence to Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) requirements and procedures.

  • Support to the Program Safety Manager, including but not limited to, attending any required meetings, or providing safety reports/analysis as requested.

  • Attend construction meeting with college project team and general contractor. Leading the safety topic (toolbox), report on site observations (Observation Report) and review upcoming construction schedule for hazard preparedness.

  • Perform ongoing construction site safety inspections and generate daily safety report for all site visits.

  • Submit weekly Project Health Safety and Environmental Observation Report to College Project Manager.

  • Perform ongoing review, for completion and accuracy, of contractor safety submittals, JHA, MOP, Fall Protection Plans, Crane Lift Plans, Excavation and Scaffold Erecting Plans, Confined Space Entry and hazard assessment of other high risk operations.

  • Perform review of contractor submitted incident reports, participate in safety stand-downs, and prepare and submit lessons learned to Program Safety Manager.

  • Perform and document safety orientation with contractor safety representative.

  • Monitor adherence to zero tolerance and corrective action policy for workers found not in compliance with the Programs safety policy.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Experience working with OCIP programs.

  • Strong experience managing field construction teams on multiple projects.

  • Experience on demolition, renovation, and new construction building projects involving abatement, remediation of hazardous materials, and hazardous material waste removal and handling, such as asbestos and lead based paint.

  • Strong experience working with senior management and field teams on large building programs across multiple sites and locations.

  • Experience participating in scheduled construction meetings with contractors and project managers.

  • Strong experience in safety incident reporting and daily construction reporting for multiple projects.

  • Ability to manage, control, and report safety incidents in a timely manner in accordance with OSHA regulations and Owner's requirements.

  • Flexibility in schedule and transportation to work at multiple sites based on assigned schedule and duties throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, establish daily work priorities, and perform oversight at multiple active construction projects.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Construction management, safety management, safety engineer or related degree is preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of commercial construction safety experience in the US with a General Contractor.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in California with a general contractor or major subcontractor.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction of educational projects in a campus environment.

  • Minimum of holding a valid Safety Management Specialist (SMS) certificate or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP); or Certified Safety Manager Construction (CSMC) certificate issued by the National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP).

  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification required.

  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER certificate preferred.

  • Current OSHA 500 (Trainer in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry) preferred.

The salary range for this full-time role is $95,000.00-$126,666.68 per year. Ranges are determined based on the position, geography, client and industry experience and level, and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range reflects base salary only, and not the total compensation package. Cumming Group reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on a candidates experience, skills, and qualifications, including client requirements.
