Job Summary:
Harris County Tax Assessor-Collectors Office is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and customer-focused Auto Branch Supervisor to join our team. The Auto Branch Supervisor assists the branch manager for all aspects of window operations for the assigned branch.
About the Tax Assessor-Collector
The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collectors Office is essential for ensuring the proper administration of tax laws and providing vital services to the community. The office plays a key role in local government, handling various financial and administrative tasks, including:
- Property Tax Collection: Assess and collect property taxes for all eligible commercial and residential property owners and entities. Calculate property taxes based on appraised values and ensure collection and distribution to the appropriate entities.
- Motor Vehicle Services: Manage commercial and residential vehicle registration, issue license plates, and handle vehicle title transfers, including the collection of associated fees.
- Voter Registration: Oversee voter registration within the county, issue voter registration certificates, and maintain an accurate voter registration roll.
- Additional Revenue Collection: Collecting certain fees, fines, and revenues related to permits or state mandates, depending on the countys needs.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the branch manager as needed, including planning work schedules and duties.
- Provide input regarding employee performance.
- Monitor employees daily time and attendance.
- Assist manager in training procedures.
- Coordinate all administrative and technical aspects and activities pertaining to the collection of automobile and property taxes, as well as processing of automobile title applications according to the State of Texas TxDMV guidelines.
- Provide information and counseling for employees.
- Provide excellent customer service to all Tax Office customers.
- Follow opening and closing procedures.
- Accurately prepare the daily deposit or participate in overseeing the completion of the daily deposit.
- Ensure operating cash in the branch is balanced daily.
- Assist with workstations, process paperwork, enter information into the RTS system, or to the cashier as needed.
- Delete all inventory that is voided, damaged, or reported missing and ensure weekly inventory is completed accurately.
- Must be prepared to repay any personal monetary shortages incurred during daily processing, and must also ensure that staff members monetary shortages are paid
- Rotate to other branches as necessary without prior notice.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited U.S. institution
- A Minimum of (1) year of supervisory/ management experience in customer service or a related field
- Must have current Auto experience within the Tax Office
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency in PC is required
- Ability to take direction and supervision
- Excellent reading comprehension and verbal and written communication skills
- Must have a professional attitude and appearance, and the ability to communicate with all levels of management
- Must be able to function effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to maneuver, including lifting to 30 pounds to a height of 3 feet
- Possess strong communication skills, tact, and diplomacy
- Proficiency in 10-key
- Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide
- Property Tax collection experience
- Ability to read and detect errors in reports
- Ability to count and balance money with fees due, plus the ability to count change due back to the customer when exact fees are not presented as payment
- Ability to learn and retain large amounts of information
- Must be able to work without constant supervision and function effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Must be able to multitask, work extended hours, and/or flex between early and late schedules as is required in management
- Must be able to adhere to office confidentiality requirements regarding customer & department information
- Must be able to travel and work at any Tax-Assessor office in Harris County

PreferencesEducation & Experience:
- Two (2) years of supervisory / management experience in customer service or a related field
- Bilingual in Spanish and English; strongly preferred
- College degree
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Typically, an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation, and a normal range of temperature and noise level
- Minor physical effort required, which may involve long periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, lifting up to 30 lbs or similar activities (e.g., filing, delivering, sorting)
- May require attendance at outside training seminars and/or conferences.
- A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on a routine basis
- Regular application of basic skills (calculator, keyboard, hand tools, eye/hand coordination)
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
- Monday-Friday 7:30 am -- 4:30 pm; subject to overtime and weekend
