General PurposeThe Optical Network/Carrier Ethernet Architect has domain ownership of fiber optic or microwave radio network communications with duties supporting engineering disciplines internal and external to PacifiCorp. Responsibilities include ownership of complex system level planning, technology selection, vendor management, staff development, and technology lifecycle management. As well as detailed engineering design, project management, and technical oversight of other engineers.
Responsibilities- Domain ownership and architecture of fiber optic or microwave radio systems.
- Develop technology standards, perform OEM technology evaluations, review vendor and equipment manufacturer performance, develop and execute on technology RFPs, create system roadmap and investment strategy.
- Contribute to telecom engineering annual and 10-year budget plan, develop and manage annual risk assessment and provide input to technology lifecycle plans.
- Serve as project manager on major projects and/or the most complex system upgrades.
- Support contract development for technology vendors. Manage vendor relationship. Act as single point of contact to vendor for bug-fix and vulnerability patch management.
- Serve as expert level consultant to internal business partners to develop and deploy technology solutions. Establish proof of concept tests and FOA pilot projects.
- Provide technical leadership to staff.
- Provide technical staff development and ongoing mentorship.
- Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
- Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically four years of additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a Bachelors degree. A minimum of two years additional directly related technical experience is required.)
- Twenty years of progressively responsible related experience with a minimum of 5 years experience in a technical leadership role.
- Top expert level knowledge of fiber optic and/or microwave radio systems.
- Advanced knowledge of electric utility system protection requirements, SCADA delivery, OT network characteristics.
- Ability to convey highly technical concepts to senior and executive management in less-technical terms.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
- Masters degree in engineering from an accredited college/university

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 20.00% of salary.
