Title: Maintenance III (Electrician)

Contract Days: 240 days

Reports to: Director of Facilities andMaintenance

JOB SUMMARY:

To analyze and correct electrical problems and repair and overhaul electrical equipment and controls. Must prioritize the needs of the campus in an order that maintains a safe working and educational environment for all employees and students. This includes but is not limited to the following items in order: lighting systems, heating controls and equipment, kitchen equipment repair, electrical distribution equipment, emergency electrical lighting systems, appliance repair. Is also expected to assist as directed in support of various campus activities and essential functions.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High School Diploma
  • Electrical License required
  • Electrical experience required
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District Administration may find appropriate and acceptable

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Plans details of working procedure by determining replacement needs or new material required and develops a logical approach to correct the problem based on the above-mentioned priority guidelines. Material requests will be submitted to the crew supervisor and/or the Director of Facilities and Maintenance for review and order
  • Analyzes circuits, wiring diagrams and drawings to install, repair, calibrate, service or replace electronic devices and systems
  • Performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical theory and principles, National Electric Code, properties of materials and principles of operation of electrical equipment. Starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains power distribution wiring, splicing pieces as required
  • Determines need for, analyzes, and makes necessary running adjustments, repairs, and overhauls
  • Notifies supervisor of potentially dangerous electrical equipment noted and corrective action taken/ required
  • Check and maintain emergency generators located at various schools.
  • Check and maintain air compressors located at various campuses

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Rotates as member of departmental “On-Call” team. This involves responding to the campus in the event of a facilities emergency. It also includes ensuring that all vehicles are fully serviced and available for use during the weekend (fuel, spot cleaning) (Saturday morning)
  • May be part of a mechanical team on major installations, working with other trades such as plumber, carpenter, groundskeeper, mechanic etc.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, stand, and reach with hands and arms, stoop, or kneel, and crouch.

Additional physical requirements include the following:

  • Physically capable of occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.

Pay Scale: GCSD Classified Scale (11) ranges based on experience
