We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as an Electrical Apprentice. GreenSpark is happy to announce that they will be sponsoring an employee to be an electrical apprentice through a partnership with ABC. The Electrical Apprentice will work alongside experienced electricians and solar experts to learn and develop the necessary skills and knowledge for a successful career in the electrical industry. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about electrical work and eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic work environment.

This Electrical Apprentice position is part of the GreenSpark installation team which is responsible for the highest quality solar PV installations ranging from residential scale to multi-megawatt utility scale systems, electric service upgrades, electric vehicle chargers and battery storage systems. This position includes, but is not limited to, traveling and working with our solar install teams in Commercial, C&I and Residential settings. Apprentices will continue to report to their primary field team manager however will be dually supervised by the EPMs and utilized on select Prevailing Wage job sites throughout the business.

Individuals in this position will be registered to participate in the GreenSpark Energy Electrical Apprenticeship Program through our educational partner, ABC, a program that culminates in a journeyperson certificate and the education to prepare you for electrical licensure. Note: (A journeyperson certificate differs from licensure - licensure requires specific testing depending upon the locality). Through hands-on training and classroom education, you will become a well-rounded and highly capable electrical professional.

GreenSpark will bear the bulk of the educational costs. Some classroom fees and materials may apply. Any penalties associated with failure to attend classes will remain the responsibility of the apprentice and not GreenSpark solar. In order to meet apprenticeship and licensing requirements, participants are also required to commit to 180 hours of unpaid schooling per year for five years. Previous qualifying experience and education will be evaluated through the DOL to reduce the required program length.

By the end of your apprenticeship, you should have mastered the fundamental skills of installing, repairing, testing, adjusting, and maintaining electrical equipment. You should be ready to work on residential, commercial, and industrial job sites. You will leave the electrical apprenticeship program with a qualified ”journeyperson electrician” certificate.This is not a program to earn a license but it will prepare you to take electrical exams both on the National and local levels.

Essential Job Functions & Key Responsibilities:

Assist with Electrical Installations:

  • Assist electricians in installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, equipment, and components.

  • Learn to interpret electrical blueprints, diagrams, and technical specifications to ensure accurate installation and compliance with codes and regulations.

Perform Basic Electrical Tasks:

  • Assist in running electrical wiring, conduit, and cables in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

  • Learn to install electrical fixtures, switches, outlets, and circuit breakers according to project requirements.

Safety Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols, guidelines, and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.

  • Participate in safety training sessions and adhere to safety procedures at all times.

Tool Maintenance and Organization:

  • Maintain and organize tools, equipment, and materials to ensure efficiency and productivity on job sites.

  • Learn to use and operate hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment safely and effectively.

Assist with Troubleshooting and Repairs:

  • Assist in troubleshooting electrical systems and diagnosing faults, malfunctions, or issues as directed by experienced electricians.

  • Learn to perform basic repairs and corrective actions to restore electrical systems to proper working order.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, and hours worked on job sites.

  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, or accidents to supervisory personnel promptly.

Education & Qualifications:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older, or have parental permission if 17 years of age.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • A commitment to GreenSpark and a willingness to learn. (Depending on past experience this is a 4-5 year course of study on-the-job and in the classroom).

  • A willingness to work within a team collaboratively with your peers and follow directions of your supervisors.

  • Basic understanding of electrical principles, concepts, and terminology.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.

  • Basic computer competence including Excel, Word and other commonly used software, including internet and email.

  • Ability to follow instructions, work well in a team environment, and demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow.

  • Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks that may require lifting, climbing, bending, and working in various weather conditions.

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites and class.

  • Willingness to adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

  • Commitment to completing assigned tasks and responsibilities with accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Flexibility to work weekdays, weekends, and overtime as needed to meet project deadlines and client needs.

  • Be able to lift 50 pounds. Be able to climb Ladders 6', 8', and 10, work on roofs and in crawl spaces in varying hot and cold temperatures. Be willing to work in bad weather!

  • An aptitude test may be provided. If you are seeking credit for past work or classroom studies, you must pass a written math and language comprehension exam (pass/fail) per DOL requirements. Practice Aptitude Test
