General Mechanic - Machine Shop

Location: Bridgewater, NJ
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 6 AM - 3 PM
Compensation: $32 - $34 per hour. Excellent benefits package

General Mechanic Responsibilities:
  • Primary tasks include servicing steel fabrication machinery and equipment including: CNC mills and lathes, Plasma Burn Tables, Welding equipment, etc.
  • Fabricates parts if need such as tools, jigs, fixtures, etc. to help complete repairs or improve the efficiency of existing manufacturing processes
  • Assists in "Production" when available including tasks such as:
  • Operate crane or forklift to move raw material, work in process, and finished goods into and between work centers and in and out of inventory.
  • Operate forklift and complete necessary paperwork for receiving incoming steel plate inventory and shipping outgoing customer orders/yard transfers.
  • Sets up and operates bending, burning and shearing equipment. Ensures all setups yield material consistent with job specifications and tolerances.
  • Measure and code incoming plates for inventory, ensuring the material matches paperwork.
  • Maintain pace with equipment operators to ensure material flows smoothly into and out of individual work centers and prevent back up or delays.
  • Performs and records daily inspection of forklift, as appropriate, and keeps forklift clean.
  • Read, interpret, and understand the job requirements of each customer order. Communicate with supervisors to ensure a complete understanding of all information.
  • Must demonstrate skilled craftsmanship with all welding and fitting activities.

General Mechanic Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Advanced vocational and/or technical education, training or certification is desirable.
  • At least 1 years basic low-voltage control wiring, 120V single-phase and 480V three-phase wiring systems and the ability to trouble shoot and make repairs as needed.
  • Has good working knowledge of CNC burning machines and the ability to trouble shoot drive systems, repair lifting stations and other mechanical systems associated with this equipment.
  • Ability to trouble shoot and repair hydraulic systems, compressed air systems, forklifts and HVAC systems.
  • Has experience and knowledge related to heavy rigging and lifting and understands safe methods for the movement and installation of heavy equipment.
  • Skilled with general steel fabrication, including but not limited to fitting, welding, flame cutting, sawing, shearing, punching, bending and painting.
  • Basic reading and mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, bend, stoop, squat, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
