Required Skills:
Knowledge of: basis principles and practices of civil engineering as they apply to various areas of engineering, federal and state laws and regulations governing highway administration and construction; organizational principles, methods and procedures.
Skills: effective written and verbal communication skills; good steward to the taxpayer.
Ability to: administer and apply appropriate engineering standards and procedures; plan and organize large highway construction projects; speak and write effectively; develop and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, department heads and the public; manage consultant design contracts and project construction contracts; follow rules and procedures; follow directives from supervisors; work well with others.
Preferred Skills:
Work experience in a civil engineering capacity;
Work experience in highway design and/or construction observation.
Education (must attach transcript) and/or work experience with Civil 3D, other design software (i.e., MicroStation, RoadCalc, Softree), AutoCAD, ESRI ArcGIS, GIS as it applies to transportation and asset
management.
Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying and Landscape Architecture.
MnDOT level 1 coursework in grading and base construction, bituminous, concrete.
