Job Description
The Aerospace Paint Technician is responsible for the precise spray application of multiple aerospace paints on a variety of substrates and configurations, ranging from simple parts to complex assemblies. This includes preparation, masking, sanding, racking, paint mixing, and the application of primers and topcoats, following strict engineering specifications and quality standards.
- Set up and apply primers and finish coatings using spray equipment per engineering planning.
- Mix paints to meet color specifications using spatulas or powered mixers.
- Clean and prepare surfaces by removing grease, dirt, rust, or paint with abrasives, solvents, or wash tanks.
- Apply alodine, primers, and final finish coatings according to documentation.
- Trim excess materials and conduct touch-ups or rework as required.
- Operate a variety of hand, power, and air tools, as well as computers related to paint operations.
- Perform masking, sanding, racking, turning, and other prep activities as needed.
- Conduct self-inspections of work using precision measuring tools (e.g., isoscopes and scales).
- Maintain and perform minor repairs on paint equipment such as sprayers and paint guns.
- Handle and dispose of scrap, trash, and hazardous waste properly.
- Support workflow by transporting products between work areas and completing production transactions.
- Assist in training lower-level employees and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Maintain daily air quality and safety logs.
- Follow all safety protocols including the use of PPE (respirators, Tyvek suits, gloves, safety eyewear, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with all company, customer, and regulatory standards (BAC, OSHA, etc.).
Qualifications
- Independently locate application areas and apply final topcoats per engineering planning and work instructions.
- Apply specialty coatings such as DYNOL and MA25 as required.
- Complete final inspections to ensure assemblies meet engineering and quality standards.
- Demonstrate expertise in finishing techniques for completed assemblies or sections.
- Painters are expected to be able to apply final topcoat finishes
