Electro-Mechanical Engineer
Position Overview
At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Electro-Mechanical Engineer to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
Responsibilities
As an Electro-Mechanical Engineer, you will demonstrate ownership across all phases of development from proposal through successful design, qualification, integration, flight testing, and production. Responsibilities may include:
- Design, development, fabrication, and integration of vehicle subsystems including selecting the best design solutions for system layouts, electronics packaging, wire harnessing and component selection.
- Supporting design, procurement and testing of avionics components.
- Design electrical and avionics hardware including avionics mounting shelves and brackets, antenna and lighting installations, electronics enclosures/packaging, and wire harness design and routing.
- Analyze the avionics hardware installations with respect to stress, fatigue, thermal, vibration, and electrical bonding concerns.
- Manage the flow of electrical and avionics systems components through design reviews, the fabrication phase, component-level testing, and integration onto the vehicle.
- Coordinate with suppliers
- Generating high-quality engineering documentation and designs
- Support component and aircraft level development and certification to military and commercial standards (MIL-STD-516, MIL-STD-810, DO-160, ARP4754, AS50881, etc.)
- Support aircraft ground and flight test campaigns
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a US Person
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) field
- Minimum 3 years' relevant industry experience
Preferred Requirements
- Relevant experience with 3D design and CAD tools (Catia preferred)
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Productivity Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio)
- Demonstrate engineering aptitude, critical thinking, and comfort with ambiguity
- Effective communication, written and verbal, working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary program teams
- Ability to analyze and resolve hardware/software integration issues
- Ability to use lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers
- Experience with UAVs
- Experience with Model Based System Engineering and requirements management (Cameo Systems Modeler, DOORS, etc.)
- Familiarity with military and commercial industry standards such as DO-178, DO-254, DO-160, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, ARP4754, ARP4761, AS50881, etc.
- Relevant education and/or experience in one or more of the disciplines listed below:
- Aviation/aircraft systems

- Avionics Installations
- Antenna Installations
- Military Vehicle Electronics or Equivalent Industrial Applications
- Wire Routing, Wire Harness Design, and Electrical Part Design
- Secondary Structure Design
- Electrical bonding
- Considerations for Lightning and RF Energy
- Thermal, Vibration, and Stress Analysis
- Technical Project Management
- Electric Propulsion Design
- Software knowledge of: Catia V5, Catia V5 Electrical Workbench, SolidWorks
Physical Requirements
- This is a hybrid position, you are expected to work on-site at our Manassas, VA site at least 3 days per week
- Ability to lift 10kg preferred
Salary Range (Annualized USD)
- Minimum Range: $73,000.00 to $129,000.00
- Maximum Range: $87,000.00 to $154,000.00
