This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment in support of the operations of the city landfill.
## Examples of Duties
Operates a variety of heavy equipment, including wheel loaders, motor graders, scrapers, tub grinders, compacter, screener, dump truck, snowplow and farm tractor.
Maintains landfill roadways with motor grader-dozer.
Assist the Roads and Streets Division with snow plowing of city streets.
Monitors landfill for regulatory compliance, ground water depth, and methane gas monitoring.
Places intermediate and final cover on trenches for site remediation and reclamation.
Performs equipment maintenance; maintains maintenance records.
Performs composting operations.
Inspects loads for hazardous materials; direct customers to proper sites.
Provides customer service.
Assists with household hazardous waste operations as needed.
Collects solid waste and yard debris and transports to landfill as needed.
## Minimum Qualifications
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid drivers license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
