Heavy Equipment Operator - Portable Team

Martin Marietta is looking for a reliable, safety-driven Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Des Moines Portable Team.

This full-time, year-round position is based out of our Ferguson Quarry near Gilman, IA and supports production at various sites throughout Central Iowa and Eastern Nebraska. As a key team member, you'll operate a range of heavy equipment-including haul trucks, motor graders, water trucks, and loaders-to move raw materials from pit to plant, assist with site cleanup, and contribute to a strong team environment.

This is a traveling position, where travel may be required at some point but, not the typical travel team. The team is currently operating from our home base near Gilman and is expected to transition to Malcom Mine near Grinnell later this fall. Both locations fall within the local travel radius, so per diem is not offered at this time. However, future assignments may require extended travel and overnight stays, which would qualify for travel compensation, including per diem.

Compensation includes:

• Competitive hourly wage

• Drive time pay

• Mileage reimbursement

• $175 per diem for overnight or extended travel assignments

Essential Functions

• Must be able to or willing to learn to operate all other mobile equipment, including: haul truck, motor grader, water truck, loader and crane.
• Assist in plant repairs and clean-up.
• Perform pre-shift safety inspection on equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and service mobile equipment. Report needed repairs to shop personnel.
• Responsible for good housekeeping of equipment.
• Adhere to MSHA and plant safety rules and regulations.
• Perform duties with minimum supervision.

Minimum Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Strongly prefer minimum 1 year experience operating heavy mobile equipment.andnbsp;
• Bi-lingual is a plus.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that works 40+ hours per week. This job will require travel to multiple sites. Larger equipment is typically air conditioned. There will be times when outside assignments that may require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry. May have exposure to dust, sand, gravel, diesel exhaust, etc.
