Cable Installer Jobs in Tennessee
A Cable Installer in the construction industry is primarily responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of cable systems, including coaxial and fiber optic cables. They work on both residential and commercial sites, ensuring that the cabling infrastructure is set up properly and meets industry safety standards. A Cable Installer may also test and troubleshoot the installed systems, perform routine system maintenance, and educate clients on how to use the cable-related equipment. They must be knowledgeable about the various tools and equipment used in the installation process and have a good understanding of national and local cabling standards and regulations.
Important skills for a Cable Installer include physical stamina, manual dexterity, and the ability to work in various weather conditions and at heights. They should also possess strong problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints and circuit diagrams. They must have a solid understanding of electrical safety and be proficient in using testing and installation tools. A high school diploma is typically required, and many employers prefer candidates with a vocational certificate or associate's degree in electronics or a related field. Cable Installers also need to obtain certain certifications, such as the Electronics Technicians Association (ETA) certification or the Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) certification, to demonstrate their proficiency. Prior job roles a person may have before becoming a Cable Installer include Electrician's Helper, Maintenance Technician, or Telecommunications Technician.
