Responsible for buying the goods or services a company needs in order to function. Purchasing personnel aim to buy the highest quality equipment or services for the lowest price. They evaluate suppliers according to cost, product quality, and delivery speed. They negotiate agreements with the vendors that offer the materials or services that best suit company needs for the greatest value.
Purchasing employees are also responsible for material use within the company. They take inventories, keep records of product performance, and make note of the frequency and volume of supply deliveries. They may also establish budgets to help reduce internal spending and waste of resources.
