The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Facilities Management Division (FMD) administers and supervises the maintenance of Department buildings, identifies and implements capital projects involving facility management, and exercises management control over the Building Maintenance Section, Campus Management Section, and the Custodial Services Section.

Administrative Architect, under direction, with broad scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment will serve as divisions architect in charge compliance with the building codes, major design, field division, or equivalent, and as a consultant on major architectural matters to the agency and perform highly responsible supervisory work, highly difficult and responsible work in architecture. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

a. Conduct building code compliance reviews and inspections covering a wide range of projects throughout the NYPD facilities.

b. Engage in or conduct complex research, investigations, studies and examinations related to code compliance and related agencys built environment, architectural functions, activities, and act as agencys architect.

c. Oversee the development of contracts related to various design and construction projects, assist with procurement coordination, bidding negotiations.

d. Approve or supervise the design, engineering, inspection, construction, demolition and/or alternation of alternation of premises, installations and equipment to ensure compliance with contracts, drawings, specifications, codes, resolutions, statutes, rules and regulations.

e. Supervise the installation, inspection and testing operations at job sites, as well as contractor activities. Ensure compliance with regulatory agency permits, regulations or programs.

f. All administrative architect related work including but not limited to:

-Prioritization of work assignments to achieve annual project completion goals.

-Monitor design process and its progress to ensure code compliance and efficient, effective, quality design within budget.

-Manage project schedules, priorities and emergencies.

-Ensure that all architectural designs result in efficiently constructed and maintainable buildings.

-Ensure that Department of Buildings (DOB) and other required regulatory approvals are in place as per project schedule.

-Evaluate completed projects and apply lessons learned into new standards and designs.

-Work and communicate with various agency stakeholders.

-Support and coordinate work with other capital design and construction units, such as Assets Management, Building Maintenance, Energy and Decarbonization, and Construction Management.

-Prepare, or supervise the preparation of drawings related to the architectural plan for major construction projects, remodeling or repair of public works and structures or installations.

-Prepare specifications, cost estimates and quantity take-offs.

-Evaluate bids, contractors and consultants performance to recommend award of contracts for architectural projects.

g. Sign and seal architectural and other official documents.

A valid New York State Registration as an Architect is required. In addition, candidates must have six (6) years of full-time paid experience in architectural work in full capacity of a licensed architect. Valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

A valid New York State Registration as an Architect is required. In addition, candidates must have six ( 6 ) years of full-time paid experience in architectural work, at least two (2) years of which shall have been as an administrative architect.
